How was the location found? Over the edge

How was the location found?

Over the edge with stress?

Long walks with Mycro next to the river help.

As amazing as the river is,

It gets boring after daily walks over a 4-month period.

Vodno Mountain was ready for us to explore.

Easy access inspired us to hike it,

The first time without packing water.

We got a great view of Skopje basin.

The pine trees make a definite line

Between the leaf barring trees and ecosystems.

“Rain or shine, Mycro,” I promised, “we will hike farther in.”

Rain it was, and the rain was a curtain,

Pulling back to showcase the bright red brick ruin.

We hiked up again to find a sense of our current.

An idea of using the ruins for claimed performance space.

The only audience; trees and stone, a bit of moss and such.

This creative process; the act of finding the ruins to create in,

Completely erased all stress.

Perform or go insanely unstable.

Performance keeps my mind active in a step-by-step organic way.

It gives the mind one pointed focus.

organic-denoting a relation between elements of something such that they fit together harmoniously as necessary parts of a whole

Skopje Runes project (movement)

Runes

The movements changed to basic, simple and in a count of threes after this film was shot. An elaborate choreography would be forgotten. The repetitive machinery is meditative.

Hair flying around works well for filling space.

Skopje Runes project (the space)

Performing in a space with out flat and smooth flooring is challenging. It makes the creative process that much better. You have to think like a mathematician to calculate filling the space with out breaking an ankle.

Filming the practice gave me the opportunity to see where a body part needed to be in order the fill the set frame. I could remember the surface enough to change the movement sequence to fit. Making the movements involve questions like “Can I jump here? Can I jump on one leg on top of this pile of bricks?”

All movements become part of the space. If they don’t work they have to be changed for the space.

There is a magikal peace you get hiking up the Spring bloomed trail to get to your performance space.

Skopje Runes project

The creator of our music inspiration for this project lives in the North.

The simplicity of organic movement turned our thoughts to Rune positions.

The runes provided a base to build on. In a short amount of time short sequences of movements were made. To create a 4 minute piece of movement can take up to 4 months sometimes. Part of the experimentation was to see if we could do this project within 7-10 days.

Skopje Runes project (finding the location)

The Bulgarian visa situation had pushed both Bill and I over the edge with stress. Long walks with Mycro next to the river help. As amazing as the river is, it gets boring after daily walks over a 4 month period.

The Vodno mountain was ready for us to explore. Easy access from where we stay inspired us to hike it. The first time without packing water. No water cut the hike short. But we got a great view of Skopje basin.

I promised Mycro rain or shine, Bill or no Bill, we would hike farther in.

The pine trees make a definite line between their ecosystem and the leaf barring trees.

The rain acted like a curtain pulled back to showcase the bright red brick work ruin.

We hiked up there once more to find a sense of peace during our current situation. Bill brought up the idea of using the ruins for filming claimed space performance.

Through this creative process in specific; the act of finding the ruins for creative projects, completely erased all the stress I was feeling. I have to perform or I go insane and get very unstable.

Performance projects keep my mind creatively active in a step by step methodical way. It’s giving my mind that one pointed focus.

Skopje Runes project (initial inspiration)

A youtube friend from Finland recently posted his new video of sounds from his steam engine.  We were so inspired by the clanks, hisses and rhythmic sounds we wanted to collaborate; to do some claimed space performances, film it and dub the steam engine sound over the top.
